What we make

Fourteen signs in this collection, doing two jobs: the resuscitation chart that several states require by law, and the house rules that keep a pool civil once there are guests in it. Two smaller warning signs, for the shallow end and the chemical store, and the mounting kit sit in their own collections, linked below.

Which of these the law requires

The CPR sign, and only in some places. It is required in New South Wales and Queensland, in South Australia for pools approved from 1 May 2016, and in Western Australia at public and commercial aquatic facilities rather than at private homes. Victoria, Tasmania, the Northern Territory and the ACT carry no CPR signage clause in their pool safety regulations. There is no national rule: the National Construction Code requires a barrier, not a sign.

Rules, no diving and chemical storage signs sit outside that requirement. Public and commercial facilities are a separate matter, with their own signage duties under state health regulations, and local councils can add requirements anywhere. The full state-by-state detail, including which South Australian pools the rule actually reaches and the sizes each state does and does not prescribe, is on the CPR signs page.

What a pool sign has to survive

An Australian pool sign lives in full sun, gets splashed with chlorinated water, and is read in a hurry by someone who is not calm. Two things follow. It has to stay legible for years, which is a print and substrate question, and it has to be readable from across the water, which is a size and contrast question.

The 350 x 710mm signs are full colour digital prints on aluminium composite: two thin aluminium skins bonded either side of a low density polyethylene core. It does not swell like timber, does not go chalky and brittle the way thin plastic signs do, and holds flat across a large panel where a single aluminium sheet would bow.

Seven colourways, because a sign chosen to sit with the fence tends to stay on the fence. Charcoal Black, Stone Blue, Moss Green, Slate Grey, Earth Red, Ice White and Dune Gold.

The 350 x 710mm panels are not pre-drilled. The 225 x 300mm signs list screws, tape and suction caps of their own.

The regulatory summary above was read from the state instruments in August 2026. It is general information, not legal advice, and if a compliance certificate depends on it, confirm with your council or a pool safety inspector.
